Situated in northeastern Charleston County, Awendaw is a small fishing town home to just over 1,300 residents. With Bulls Bay to the east and Bull Harbor to the south, the lusciously green town strives to keep its currently rural character. Awendaw is served by the Charleston County School District. The local students living in Awendaw may attend the St. James-Santee Elementary School, Charles Pickney Elementary School, McClellanville Middle School, Cario Middle School, Lincoln High School or Wando High School depending on what side of Seewee Road they live on. The small town of Awendaw hosts its famous Annual Blue Crab Festival in October and is fun for everyone in the community plus the welcomed visitors! Other annual events include the Sewee Association’s Oyster Roast, the Bulls Bay Nature Festival and Awendaw Green which is an outdoor music event occurring weekly. The growing areas vision to expand has Awendaw working towards creating a 12-mile trail system for its residents to enjoy. Here they will be able to have easy access to the different amenities that hug tight to their support for happier and healthier lifestyles.
