Located in the city of Charleston, Daniel Island is hugged by the Cooper River on the west and the Wando River on the east. With just under 11,000 residents living on Daniel Island, the city’s eight neighborhoods each have their own park. The family friendly parks located in each neighborhood are Barfield Park, Center Park, Cochran Park, Codner’s Ferry Park, Daniel Island Park, Etiwan Park, Pierce Park and Smythe Park. Thanks to the Daniel Island Company which purchased the island in 1997, the developers have been recognized nationally for their planning and “smart growth” practices. With its wonderfully planned layout, the island offers many trails, recreational activities and a vibrant downtown area. Downtown Daniel Island is filled with excellent restaurants, shops, churches and business offices. The newly developing town has an up-and-coming feel with its growing brewery destinations and expanding fitness center. For the more athletic residents, Daniel Island houses the Family Circle Tennis Center and the MUSC Health Stadium; professional sports facilities. Centered around giving back, Daniel Island Community Fund annually donates to nonprofit organizations, Breast Cancer awareness events are rallied around and fundraising initiatives continue to support the new MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children Hospital.
Another community amenity on the island is the Daniel Island Club. As a member of the club, residents can experience astonishing recreational, fitness and social facilities. On top of its spacious parks and community focused atmosphere, there are three schools situated on Daniel Island. DI Academy, Daniel Island School and Bishop England High School are the three schools. DI Academy is pre-K, Daniel Island School is K-8 and Bishop England High school is a private Roman Catholic school for grades 9-12. Whether you’re looking for an adventurous day in town or just looking to relax while walking the trails of the island, Daniel Island will continue to remain the delightfully crafted city it was built to be!
